Carbon storage in tropical peatlands

Based on observations of a tropical peatland in Brunei, a model illustrates how rainfall and water drainage through tropical peatlands determine a peatland’s domed shape and the amount of carbon stored as peat, suggesting that the model can predict how changes in drainage as well as the amount, seasonality, and intermittency of rainfall may affect tropical peatland carbon storage.
