HIV treatment and vaccine

A mathematical model for evaluating the future of the HIV pandemic in 127 countries estimates approximately 49 million HIV cases globally from 2015-2035, given current interventions; that achieving the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS goals could avert 25 million of these new infections; and that introduction of a vaccine in 2020 that is 50% efficacious could avert an additional 6.3 million infections, demonstrating the importance of an HIV vaccine in eliminating global disease transmission. - Read at PNAS
